Meet Samir Abukhodair

- Founder, Creatures Of

I’m Samir, an experienced engineer turned passionate educator. With over a decade of work in the tech field, I have a strong foundation in problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills. However, along my journey, I discovered a deep passion for teaching and a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of children.

My Journey: From Engineer to Educator to Steward of the Earth

I’ve spent over a decade working in tech, transitioning from an engineer to a tech consultant, but I found my true passion in education. During my time in the corporate world, I chased milestones, titles, and bonuses—only to realize that the more I achieved, the emptier I felt. The pandemic forced me to confront this discontent, opening my eyes to deeper questions about purpose, fulfillment, and my connection to the earth.

This shift wasn't just professional; it was deeply personal. I began to explore emotional intelligence, which became a catalyst for a broader transformation. I started to see education not just as a way to impart knowledge, but as a path to foster empathy, compassion, and awareness of our relationship with the environment. I realized that being a "Creature of Learning" means understanding that the earth is part of who we are, and that education should guide students to become stewards of the planet.

Reconnecting to the Earth: Building, Growing, and Regenerating

In the Catskills, I found new grounding—literally. Building a cabin from scratch taught me humility, patience, and the true meaning of sustainability. I started growing food, building with my hands, and connecting with the rhythms of nature. Each project was a lesson not just in construction, but in how to align our lives with the earth’s cycles. I realized that sustainable living is more than an ideal; it's a practice that starts small, like the first nail driven into wood or the first seed planted in soil.

My Approach to Education: Compassion and Interconnection

At Creatures of Learning, I take a holistic approach that blends STEM with literature, art, and social studies. My goal is not just to teach academic concepts, but to inspire students to ask bigger questions about the world and their role in it. Compassion is central to every interaction, guiding students to see themselves as both learners and contributors to a more compassionate, sustainable world.

The focus here is on building positive relationships—between students, between teacher and student, and between individuals and the natural world. I see education as a way to cultivate a regenerative mindset, where learning is not just about personal success but about creating a better, more compassionate world for all.

A Call to Action: Aligning Education with Compassion and Sustainability

As I continue to evolve, my mission is clear: to help students develop not just academically, but also as compassionate stewards of the earth. I believe that true learning is about nurturing curiosity, encouraging empathy, and inspiring a commitment to sustainable, meaningful change. This is not just about achieving success; it's about creating a future where education fosters a deep connection to ourselves, each other, and the planet we share.
